Weekly Who: The Doctor Abides

Welcome to our Weekly Who roundup! Every Friday morning we collect random/cool Doctor Who-related news and things that we’ve found in our internet travels. Feel free to point out your own finds in the comments!

Earlier this week we asked the Twitter and Facebook followers what their name would be if they were a Time Lord and they did not disappoint! (As you can see above.) Click through for the complete list.

Only one news item of note this week:

Russell T. Davies on BBC Wales

1.) Russell T. Davies feels ready to give science fiction a rest.

After writing damn near six seasons of science fiction television, Russell T. Davies hinted in an interview with BBC Wales that Torchwood: Miracle Day will probably be his last SF effort for a while.

It’s time to write something just where people talk in kitchens, at least for me.

We’d say after restoring a decades-old science fiction franchise to its utmost prime that he’s very much earned the break, no?

On to the cool stuff:

1.) A Child’s Garden of Time Lords

As mentioned above, we cast out the net for people to propose what their names would be in Time Lord society. Some clever responses came on back.

Doctor Duckies

2.) The picture above is a sample from the Doctor Who Look-a-Like Duckies being sold by Etsy user OnlyDucks. As you can see, Ten and Eleven are present in their full regalia, sonic screwdrivers and all, and Rubber Eleven even comes with an optional fez!

TARDIS ereader slipcover

3.) Now your iPhone is bigger on the inside. Check out these TARDIS slipcovers for your e-reader, iPhone, or iPod by MyFunkyCamelot. These are custom-made and can be fitted for a device of any size. You can also get an Adipose variant, although it’s hard to pass up the opportunity to carry a tiny TARDIS around....

3.) While we’re on a TARDIS tip, we also happened across this pattern for TARDIS-styled fingerless gloves over at Nerdy Knitventures.

4.) Earlier this week we had a hankering for someone to bake us evil cookies and ended up finding these illustrated Doctor Who cookies by Finnish baker Ocelan Bites.

Doctor Who cookies

We’re still waiting for evil cookies.

So that's what it means, "The Dude abides." Has anything ever made more perfect sense? And is the graphic at the top of the post not one of the 4.5 best things ever placed in the 'tubes?

I know that Who is quintessentially English, and an American version would be folly. But if it were ever pursued, the 'merican Doctor's portrayal must start from a Dude homage.

And, I believe he's about to notice that his rug was stolen.

Maude Lebowski: What do you do for recreation?
The Dude: Oh, the usual. I bowl. Time travel. The occasional acid flashback.

It all works so well.

5. Curtis Lynn Blackley
Hey cool, I'm mentioned twice up there. :)

I'm tempted to correct that, Curtis, but we'll just leave it for posterity's sake. :) You can never have too many mechanics roaming space/time.

I hope the Master regenerates into "Jesus" as played by John Tuturro. Can't you just hear that Spanish Version of Hotel California playing when it happens?

The Doctor/Dude- "That Creep man roll, man"

Walter- "Yeah, but he's a pervert".
Joseph Isaac

Yeah, I said "The Gamer" but "The Dude" is by far the best.

"That rug really tied the TARDIS together."

Hi there people!

I just had to come comment here, since I noticed my cookies up here. Nice that someone else aswell likes them (and Doctor Who of course!). There's just one thing... my blogger name is not "Kirjoittaja", since that just means "Author" in Finnish ;) My blogger name is Ocelan Bites.

Anyway, good job with the "Who" things you are finding on the internet. I immediately started thinking which yarn to choose for the wristwarmers. I must have them!

Also, I don't if you were looking for evil cookies with a certain theme, but I would be willing to have a go on just some evil cookies with some cookies from Hell found under this post.

@Ocelan Bites: Thank you for the clarification (and the evil cookie link--the cookies from Hell look just as amazing as your Who-cookies!). Excellent work :)

I only just realised nobody has linked to the amazing Third Doctor fan anime in one of these posts yet: trailer here

(I have no connection to this project beyond thinking it's awesome.)
