Salma Hayek to Produce Wicked Miniseries for ABC

Salma Hayek to produce Wicked for TVGregory Maguire’s novel Wicked, also the source for the long-running and extremely acclaimed Broadway musical, will be an eight-part (non-musical) miniseries on ABC, produced by Salma Hayek, whose relationship with the network began with her series Ugly Betty, and includes many other projects to come. Presumably the development of Wicked as a miniseries supersedes the rumored movie adaptation, and the longer format, in theory, means more of the novel will be able to make it on the screen.

There is no word yet as to whether Hayek intends to play the lead role of Elphaba, or indeed any role other than producer. The network has yet to announce an air date for the miniseries, as the project is still in the very early stages of development. More news as it becomes available.

For the love of god, please have the tv show end like the book, not the play.
