For Those About to Rock, Part 4

Since the shift in pop music from classical, to jazz to rock and roll, science fiction and fantasy imagery has been a mainstay in album cover art. From some of the smallest and biggest names in illustration, art and music history. In no particular order over the course of this week, I’ll be collecting some of the most notable science fiction and fantasy images ever created. Check out Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.

NOTE: This part of the series is a cover gallery without notation. If you can add art credits to certain pieces, leave a comment below. Thanks!

RZA as Bobby Digital, In Stereo by Bill Sienkiewicz

Awesome job Mark. I would have to nominate 3 covers Whelan did for Sepultura , mainly because they were big influences on me as 15 year old. Check the Sepultura covers for "Chaos A.D." , "Arise" , and "Beneath the Remains" . Now imagine 15 year old Scotty , all angst and art rockin out!

The Ken Kelly piece (Alabama Thunderpussy) was originally done for Berkeley's 1977 edition of Robert E. Howard's Conan novel The Hour of the Dragon (aka Conan the Conqueror).

The Baroness cover is done by John Dyer Baizley, who is in the band and who has a bunch of album jackets for other sludgy hard rockin' bands.
