Win Tix to Gregory Maguire’s My Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me Reading in NYC

My Mother She Killed Me My Father He Ate MeMy Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me (Penguin) is a new book featuring forty new fairy tales (inspired by a wide array of classic fairy tales like “The Snow Queen,” “The Little Match Girl,” “Hansel & Gretel,” and more) from some pretty impressive literary names.

Contributors include Neil Gaiman, Joyce Carol Oates, Aimee Bender, Neil LaBute, Michael Cunningham, Kelly Link, Lydia Millet, and many more. The book, edited by Kate Bernheimer, features a foreword from famed Wicked author Gregory Maguire.

Maguire will be hosting a reading from My Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me at Symphony Space in New York City on Wednesday, October 27th. The reading/staging of these stories features a phenomenal cast led by Lili Taylor (Six Feet Under) and Christine Ebersole (Grey Gardens). It should be an amazing night of storytelling; tickets are currently available at (212) 854-5400 or on the web, and the wonderful folks at Symphony Space have given us two sets of tickets (2 tickets per set) to give away!

The Official Rules: To enter, leave one comment on this post—duplicates won’t count—by 8:00 PM EST, Thursday 10/21. The winner will be chosen randomly. Please check your email Friday 10/22; if we don’t hear back from the winner in 24 hours, another winner will be chosen.

Non-eligible comment, but I'd like to point out that this title got a song stuck in my head I last heard six years ago, in a production of Caryl Churchill's chilling bad-fairy play The Skriker:

My mother she killed me and put me in pies
My father he ate me and said I was nice
My brothers and sisters they picked my bones
And they buried me under the marley stones

720. Brrr.

ALSO, I appear to have gone to high school with one of the performers. Life is odd.

When in the presence of wee folk
We always whispered when we spoke
With no proof but suspicion
That they magically listened
They might blurt out the end of a good joke
