In the market for a TARDIS?

It’s bigger on the ALT text. Can you picture this in your living room? British auction house Bonhams is selling off a prop TARDIS from Christopher Eccleston-era Doctor Who. The listing describes it as:

A complete Tardis prop, circa 2005, of painted rasped wood panel and glass construction, the base having painted parquet effect floor, panels fastening using bracket and bolt, having a pair of hinged doors [...]

Apparently they expect it to go for £8,000-12,000, which is about $11,808-$17,713, according to Google.

What movie or TV set geek memorabilia would you want to add to your collection? Personally, I think the TARDIS would be a bit hard to store or display—but, sticking to the Who theme, I’d love to get my hands on one of the actual sonic screwdrivers used in the show.

Ellen B. Wright lives in New York, where she works in publishing and takes an excessive number of pictures.

Hmm. I think I'd geek out for "The Red Button" from "Out of Gas" in Firefly (alas, as I understand it, said button is firmly on Joss Whedon's desk).

Barring that, a Crysknife from the David Lynch Dune movie.

Want! Much want! But I suppose if I can't have that, can I have Ten's hand in that nifty little jar Capt. Jack used to carry around?

But is it bigger on the inside?

Cause if it's not, then no deal.

Milo @ 2...what would you do with it, or do I not want to know?

I would kill for (and subsequently, with) some of the WETA-designed Rohirrim weapons and armor; such beautiful and thoughtful horse details! ::warriorlike swoon::

Oh, yes. I want the TARDIS, please. Thank you.

thumbelinablues @ 4: I would use it as an alarum for when the Doctor was in my neck of the woods so I could steal away on his shiny new TARDIS, of course. Plus, it's totally a conversation piece.

I find it a little strange and concerning that a mostly useless, fairly impractical fan-object is selling for so much money in a recession of fairly massive proportions... That said, when I saw this article, I was struck with a desire to claw my way through the rich and famous to have Eccleston's TARDIS for myself. Fandom is a strange and terrifying thing.

Other than anything to do with the Doctor, I mostly want costumes rather than props. Costumes can be worn; props take up space and need dusting. I seem to be the most absurdly practical fangirl around...

As far as non-physical show stuff, I want to learn the language of Gallifrey. The trekkies have Klingon; can't we have Time Lord?

Re costumes: I would love to have Tom Baker's scarf, of course! Although, I could probably make my own... but it wouldn't be the same.

After seeing it at the NYC Lost exhibit, I would totally buy Daniel Farraday's "Desmond is my Constant" notebook if I had the money to spend. I geeked out SO HARD when I saw it. It has a COFFEE STAIN in it! And fake equations! FAKE EQUATIONS! :)

Also, River Song's book o' spoilers from Doctor Who.

I have a thing for prop books, it seems. :)

I dunno - this TARDIS' heart has been all looked-into.

@FSS

Oh, come on... the thing's got, like, how many trillion miles on it? Of course, they had to look under the hood once! Besides, the Doctor put it back...

Gimme Gimme Gimme!
I want it!

I mean, er...
I don't exactly have 12000 pounds but if they allow me to use it once, I can go in the future and back, and then, who know, maybe a bet or a lottery or something...

Seriously though, that would be amazing in my (brand new) living-room, but I agree with you Ellen:
A collection of all screwdrivers used in the show would suit my "geek-iness".

Web site says, Sold for £10,800 inclusive of Buyer's Premium. That is 16,070.56783 US Dollars (Apple calculator, today's rates).

I think some collectables are cool; vintage cars, vinyl records and such but TV/movie props, not so much.
Shields up ......

As a Tom Baker fan, I'd "scarf" it up...

Pfft, we have one of those in Glasgow.

Used to be a coffee Tardis, called Coppucinno.

Now it's just a regular ol' Tardis, sitting there, pining for Ten.

The sonic screwdrivers started off as a small prop, then the "toy" collectable was made and they actually liked that version better and they switched. You can pick up one at thinkgeek.com
