Every year, the members of the World Science Fiction Convention (commonly known as Worldcon) vote to decide who will win the Hugo Award. To help them decide and fuel the many discussions on who should win that will take place in the next few months, this year’s Worldcon, Aussiecon 4, with the help of the nominees and their publishers, makes nominated works available in electronic format to the voters in the Hugo Voter Packet. This is the first year that all nominated works for the four written fiction categories are included in the packet. But that’s not all! Many of the other categories, Best Graphic Story, Best Related Work, Best Fanzine and many more are represented with either complete works, sample issues or excerpts. A complete list of the content of the packet is on the Aussiecon website.
All you need to do to vote for this year’s Hugo Awards is to become a member of Aussiecon 4, which will take place in Melbourne, Australia over Labor Day weekend. The good news is that you don’t need to attend to be a member of the convention, the bad news is that if you don’t attend, you won’t have as much fun. If you can’t make it there in person, you can simply purchase a supporting membership and have the right to vote for this year’s Hugo (and nominate for next year’s too) as part of the benefits that come with your membership.
