The Brooklyn Indie Market goes Steampunk

Last weekend, the Brooklyn Indie Market was transformed for the second annual Steampunk Day. Those who braved the pouring rain and the cramped quarters were treated to a wealth of merchandise, a fashion show, a lecture on Steampunk 101 from G.D. Falksen, and a chance to rub elbows (literally) with New York's steampunk subculture.

The limited space was a definite disadvantage for the fashion show (by the end of the show the spectators were spilling out onto the streets, violently beating each other for a chance at a space with a view*), but the models and designers made the best of it. From just-shy-of-historical clothing to Goth-tinged post-apocalyptic gear, from Western-inspired to wearable art, the fashion and hopefully next year the weather will be more conducive to the outdoor strutting of stuff!

* This did not happen; to the disappointment of those who enjoy a game of fisticuffs, everyone was as polite as Queen Victoria could have wanted.

The market space packed in the vendors, who brought more brass goodies than you could shake a walking stick at: artisans included Tsirkus Fotografika, KvO Design, Queen of the Cat People, Berit New York, charm school designs, Lamia Akar Glove Design, Rocklove Design, 19 Moons, Once Lost Jewelry, Rebecca Sheperd, Mayluk, Fofolle, Barker Bell, and Morrigan, among others. (You can drool over all their wares - and shop vicariously - in the Steampunk Vendor catalog.)

People forget to take photos and thus have no photos of them there, but if you happened to take a photo of them and post it to these two groups you will have made there day.
