Hatter that isn’t

Mad Hatter, Alice in Wonderland

So I’m kinda wishing Tim Burton’s Mad Hatter looked more like this concept art Michael Kutsche did for the movie than the final clownish version. One thing is for sure, if there is an “Art of...” book, it’ll be a must have.

Wow...I could not disagree more.

If they had turned the Mad Hatter in to yet another piece of steampunk drivel I would have cried.

Actually more insulting than that is the fact that the design attempts to co-opt the mad hatter's victorian finery (because he's an actual fricking victorian) into a more hip mode through the addition of goggles.

Totally agree with smonkey--the last thing Alice should ever be is steampunk. Wonderland is bizarre and aggressively nonsensical--it is not cool and mysterious.

Besides, the Hatter's actual hat, in the official pics, is gorgeous. Go look at the full sized pic :)

Even without the steampunky specs, I do prefer this version to the version that made the film. Concessions had to be made, I suppose, because Depp must play the part and he just doesn't fit this (the better) concept physically.
Odd though that in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", Depp's Willie Wonka looked like Michael Jackson and in this film Depp looks like Gene Wilder's Willie Wonka.
Look for Depp to actually look like the the Mad Hatter in the next Burton/Depp collaboration.
