Tor.com Anniversary Giveaway #23: Star Maps (Past and Present)

  

The Prize: Two great books for the casual astronomer: Star Maps for Beginners, by I.M. Levitt & Roy K. Marshall, which includes twelve full maps for each month of the year and enough information to get you started; and Star Maps: History, Artistry, Cartography by Nick Kanas, an exhaustive history of celestial cartography that includes over 200 images. 

The Rules: To get this giveaway, all you need to do is comment (once—duplicates won’t count) on this post. The winner will be selected at random. You have until 12pm EST on Tuesday, July 21st, to comment here. No geographic restrictions apply. You may enter yourself to win as many of these giveaways as you’d like, but if you are randomly selected as the winner you are ineligible to receive any others, so make sure to pick the ones you want!

I Hope the book of ancient Celestial Maps includes some East Asian Star Charts. I would love which includes the traditional Japanese Names for constellations, like Subaru which we in the west refer to as the Pleiades or Seven Sisters.

Yes, there are electronic alternatives (I use Stellarium, a free app), but there is something very satisfying about holding the sky in your hands in a physical book. And I haven't owned one since a Norton Star Atlas, epoch 1950, that I got when I was 10, along with a 3.5inch reflecting telescope.
