Tom Kidd
Once, Tom was full of despair and on the brink of starvation. Then Tor Books came into his life and took him under its wing; Tom owes a debt of gratitude to Tom Doherty and Jim Baen for keeping him alive.  Tom loves making things and he loves reading science fiction and fantasy, so it is not hard to imagine him doing book covers and interior illustrations for books and magazines, various design projects including film and, sometimes, projects entirely for his own entertainment.

Even though he knows it to be a deadly sin, Tom is proud to have illustrated The Three Musketeers, from William Morrow, and The War of the Worlds, from Harper Collings.  Two books of his art, which he also designed and wrote, are available: The Tom Kidd Sketchbook and Kiddography: The Art & Life of Tom Kidd.

Tom’s art won him a World Fantasy Award for Best Artist in 2004 and seven Chesley Awards.  His paintings also hang in the collections of two truly great artists Tom has always admired: Michael Kaluta and, most recently, Jean (Moebius) Giraud.

Tom’s most time-consuming obsession is a book he is writing and illustrating called Gnemo: Airships, Adventure, Exploration. This is the sort of stuff that makes him happy.
