Bob Eggleton

For twenty years, Bob Eggleton has been putting brush to canvas or board to create science fiction, fantasy, horror, and landscape art. Winner of nine Hugo Awards and twelve Chesley Awards, as well as various magazine awards, Bob has done magazine and book covers, posters, prints, and of late, trading cards, stationery, drink coasters, journals, and jigsaw puzzles.

Bob also works as a conceptual illustrator for movies and thrill rides. His most recent movie work includes concept and character design for the animated feature The Ant Bully for DNA Productions/Playtone Co./Warner Bros, and previous to that, Bob did conceptual art for the Academy Award-nominated animated film Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.

Between demanding deadlines for book covers and movies, Bob has managed to squeeze in time to illustrate two books of experimental artwork about dragons. Dragonhenge (2002) and The Stardragons (2005) are original dragon-myths by award-winning author John Grant, and they allowed Bob to stretch his talents in a range of mediums and also to indulge in his beloved pencil work.

Other books of Bob’s artwork include Alien Horizons: The Fantastic Art of Bob Eggleton, Greetings From Earth: The Art of Bob Eggleton, and The Book of Sea Monsters. Currently, Primal Darkness: The Gothic and Horror Artwork of Bob Eggleton is available from Cartouche Press.

Bob has been elected as a Fellow of The International Association of Astronomical Artists (FIAAA), and is a Fellow of The New England Science Fiction Association (NESFA). His work has appeared on professional publications and books in the world of science fiction, fantasy and horror across the world.

More recently, Bob has indulged his passion for painting fine art by starting a ‘Painting a Day’ personal project to refine his use of oil paint and to experiment with new fine art ideas. The results can be found online at ‘Bob’s ART du Jour’ - http://bobsartdujour.blogspot.com/.

And in the middle of all of this, Bob still manages to sneak away sometimes to watch his beloved Japanese monster films, buy toys, travel to strange and wondrous places, and do the odd bit of landscape painting. He is married to Australian artist Marianne Plumridge and their Rhode Island condo is largely populated by a legion of Godzilla toys, movies, books (many books), music CDs, art materials, and the resultant paintings. An asteroid, or minor planet, has been named after Bob Eggleton; ‘13562 Bobeggleton’ was discovered in 1992 by Spacewatch at Kitt Peak.
