Here’s Your First Look at Frozen’s Elsa on Once Upon a Time

first look Elsa costume Once Upon a Time Frozen Georgina Haig Frozen Elsa cosplay

Fringe’s Georgina Haig was certainly inspired casting to play Frozen’s ice queen Elsa, who’s abandoning Arendelle for Storybrooke on Once Upon a Time this fall. But we’ve been waiting for our first official look at the character to see if she can really channel Elsa.

White-blonde braid? Yep. Fierce expression? Right there. Sparkly blue gown? Well... we’re not the hugest fans of her costume.

Betty White Admits She Was “Such a Trekkie!” Then William Shatner Showed Up

Betty White San Diego Comic Con 2014 William Shatner

Emma Loggins was on hand to report one of the greatest moments in our collective history. “Am I a geek or a nerd?” Betty White asked the crowd at the Legends of TVLand panel. “I’ll be anything you want me to be.” Oh, Betty, we just want you to be you. The Golden Girl took the stage with Donald Faison and an alternately snippy and charming William Shatner who kept ribbing Ms. White about her age. “I used to be such a Trekkie,” she mused, and finally bested the Shat by turning to the audience with this gem: “I forgot his name, he used to be on Star Trek.” Ouch.

[Then they started talking about zombies]

Summer of Sleaze: The Alternative Horrors of Kathe Koja

Kathe Koja

Summer of Sleaze is 2014’s turbo-charged trash safari where Will Errickson of Too Much Horror Fiction and Grady Hendrix of The Great Stephen King Reread plunge into the bowels of vintage paperback horror fiction, unearthing treasures and trauma in equal measure.

In January 1991, a new line of horror paperback originals from Dell Books appeared under the imposing imprint of Abyss. Spearheaded by editor Jeanne Cavelos, the Abyss line even included in each book an ambitious mission statement on the very first page.

Six Seasons and a Community Panel at SDCC 2014!

Hey Human Beings! It’s been a rollercoaster of a year, what with Dan Harmon getting un-fired from Community, then Donald Glover leaving the show, and then the show getting cancelled, only to be rescued at the last moment (by, of all corporate human beings, Yahoo?) and unleashed back into the world like some sort of wizard that fell into shadow and came back all white and glowing and more irascible than ever. San Diego Comic Con hosted a Community panel today, and it was full of wonders! First, to get the news out of the way: Community Season 5 will come our on Blu-ray/DVD on Aug 5th, and writing for Season 6 will begin this fall! Now click through to read highlights from the panel!

[Yes, Harmon’s already planning the movie.]

Benedict Cumberbatch Doctor Strange

Cheekboned Sherlock spirit vise Benedict Cumberbatch is at San Diego Comic Con this year to promote Penguins of Madagascar, the third Hobbit movie, and...Doctor Strange?

At least, that’s the rumor, and SDCC goers have wasted no time asking him flat out whether he’s going to be announced as Stephen Strange during Marvel’s Phase 3 panel on Saturday.

[How many ways can I say maybe?]

Jack Black Dragged Away by R. L. Stine’s Monsters During Goosebumps Panel

Sony Goosebumps Jack Black San Diego Comic Con 2014

This year’s Sony panel at San Diego Comic Con was primarily a showcase for the forthcoming movie adaptation of R. L. Stine’s Goosebumps book series, starring Jack Black and debuting in August of 2015. (Chris Colombus also video’d in to apologize for not having any Pixels footage for anyone, especially after that awesome action shot with Peter Dinklage.)

Sony also headed off any Marvel Universe news at the pass by announcing the day before that Amazing Spider-Man 3 and Sinister Six were moving, prompting to Marvel Studios to immediately hoover up the vacated movie premiere dates.

But anyway, here’s what a Goosebumps movie could possibly be about!

Space Station 76 Trailer: Where Space Opera Meets Spaceballs

watch Space Station 76 trailer Patrick Wilson Liv Tyler Matt Bomer Ron Burgundy Galaxy Quest 1970s robot pills marriages affairs

If Galaxy Quest had had a Ron Burgundy-esque character, you’d get Patrick Wilson’s mustachioed, Harvey Wallbanger-swilling captain of the 1970s-spoofing, dark interstellar comedy Space Station 76. This bleak movie, which debuted at South by Southwest earlier this year, follows the dramatic and profoundly unhappy inhabitants of the ship Omega 76.

But Wilson is not the only fun member of the crew: Liv Tyler plays the new assistant captain—you can guess how well his Burgundy-like character takes that appointment—while Matt Bomer looks to be a married cyborg with literal wandering hands. Because you can’t have a space opera without a bit of soapiness.

Superman Can Probably Use the Force, So This Picture of Henry Cavill as A Jedi is Right

SuperJedi, Henry Cavill dressed as a Jedi

We sort of wish that Zack Snyder had put a little more effort into finding a suitable Jedi robe for Superman, though. It’s got that horrible shiny, crinkled I-just-got-pulled-out-of-a-plastic-costume-bag look. Come on, Snyder. Cavill’s worth more than that.

Still, whatever it takes to make our crossover dreams come true, right? Does this mean Cavill will be wearing this to the Warner Brothers panel at Comic Con this year?

Wrapping Up the Ends, Untidily: Lois Lowry’s Son

Lois Lowry SonIn Son, Lois Lowry returns us to the terrifying, ordered world she had first explored in The Giver, the world where at most fifty infants are allowed to be born and live each year (extras and any babies that “fail to thrive” are euthanized), where everyone is assigned a job, a spouse, and children to raise, where everyone takes daily pills to suppress any form of hormonal attraction. Also, everyone eats the same carefully prepared diet. Delightful place, really. Fortunately, as Son reminds us, this world does have other places. Unfortunately, those other places have their own evils.

As Son begins, Claire, a Birthmother, is undergoing her first pregnancy, in the process answering most of the questions I had from The Giver. Spoiler: I am not happy with the answers.

[More unhappy spoilers follow—spoilers for this book and the previous books in the series.]
