Tor.com Acquires the Third Centenal Cycle Novel from Malka Older

Malka Older’s 2016 debut novel Infomocracy swept readers into a frighteningly relevant world of big ideas, global government, and sinister machinations, in what The Huffington Post called “one of the greatest literary debuts in recent history.” It was named one of the best books of 2016 by The Washington Post, The Verge, Flavorwire, Kirkus, and Book Riot. Malka Older will continue her groundbreaking Centenal Cycle in 2017 with Null States, in which predators rise at the edges of the powerful Information’s control, and we’re proud to announce that Tor.com Publishing has acquired a third novel to cap off this exciting trilogy.

Malka Older’s bold vision of the future springs from years of experience in humanitarian aid and development. She has responded to complex emergencies and natural disasters in Uganda, Darfur, Indonesia, Japan, and Mali, and in 2015 was named Senior Fellow for Technology and Risk at the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs. Malka had this to say about the sale:

Now is a vital (and fascinating) time to be writing about democracy, information, and the responsibility of institutions, so I’m thrilled to be writing book three in the Centenal Cycle. Like Infomocracy and Null States, the third book shows us a future world that offers new ideas in governance while giving us a different perspective on the times we are living through. As the experiment of micro-democracy faces new threats, our globe-spanning group of heroic data-analysts, spies, and election workers must decipher intrigues both internal and external in order to protect the system—or, possibly, in order to overturn it.

Expect the third book in the Centenal Cycle to arrive in 2018.
