OK, we might be done. BoingBoing has shared what may be, seriously, the weirdest thing we’ve ever seen on the internet. Apparently, in 1931, Los Angeles University High School chose an innovative theme for The Chieftain, their annual yearbook. That theme?

MARTIANS.

FREAKING FABULOUS ART DECO MARTIANS.

Why? We have no idea. But enterprising Martian enthusiast Pea Hicks discovered this work of beauty, and shared it with all of us. Click through for more Martian antics!

This image is the most recognizably “Martian” of the batch. We’re fascinated by this tableaux – is the knife-wielding Martian a jealous suitor? Why is the other Martian brandishing a fan? Why doesn’t the woman on the dais look like a Martian? How much is rent for a place with that sweet view of Saturn? What yearbook advisor approved this insanity?

Saturn makes another appearance here, along with what we can only assume are a pair of Martian mages engaging in a wizard duel.

You got your robots in my Martian theme! …and that’s totally OK, because robots make everything better.

Ummm, wait. Are we still on Mars at this point? Or has Kenneth Anger hijacked the yearbook class?

Finally, and most adorable of all, the students wrote a Martian fight song! We’re not sure what tune to use, but we’ve been trying to make “La Marseillaise” work:

We want to live in this yearbook. You can check out the whole album over at Pea Hicks’ site! Believe us, it’s worth it.
