Since 2008, Tor.com has been a leading market for science fiction and fantasy short fiction. Several of our stories are Hugo and Nebula finalists: Charlie Jane Anders’ “Six Months, Three Days” won the Hugo Award for Best Novelette in 2012; our 2014 winners include John Chu’s “The Water That Falls on You From Nowhere” for Best Short Story, Mary Robinette Kowal’s “The Lady Astronaut of Mars” for Best Novelette, and Charles Stross’ “Equoid” for Best Novella. Kij Johnson’s “Ponies” won the Nebula in 2011. Since the beginning, much of our fiction has been acquired and edited by Patrick Nielsen Hayden. In 2010, Liz Gorinsky began buying and editing for the site; Ann VanderMeer and Ellen Datlow also joined our team in 2012.

Now, we’re pleased to announce that Jonathan Strahan is joining us as a Consulting Fiction Editor! Jonathan is a World Fantasy and Locus Award winning editor, publisher, and podcaster. A multiple Hugo Award nominee, Jonathan started editing fiction in 1990. He worked on the ground breaking Australian magazine Eidolon (1990-1999) before becoming Reviews Editor for Locus (2002-present). He edited the short-lived Eclipse Online and has published more than sixty books, including the Infinity Project, Eclipse, and New Space Opera series of anthologies. He edits The Best Science Fiction and Fantasy of the Year, now in its tenth year, and is co-host with Gary K. Wolfe of the Hugo-nominated Coode Street Podcast.

In 2015, Jonathan acquired four novellas for Tor.com Publishing from Gwyneth Jones, Walter Jon Williams, Kij Johnson, and Ellen Klages. His new position as Consulting Fiction Editor will strengthen the work he’s done with us already, acquiring new short fiction in addition to the great stories from our current editors. Jonathan will be focusing on hard sci-fi and space opera. “I am delighted to be working with the Tor.com team to bring the kind of hard science fiction and space-based adventure fiction that I love so much to one of the best sites in the world,” he said. “I’m very excited about what we’re going to achieve together in the year ahead.”

We are delighted to welcome Jonathan aboard the rocket and can’t wait to see what stories he will continue to bring to Tor.com.
