The rumors have been flying, but we finally have the confirmation: Han Solo is getting his own film! A film about young Solo! Tiny smuggling Solo! Solo who (hopefully) shoots first
StarWars.com has news that the Han Solo standalone film is going forward. (They’re calling these non-trilogy films, the “Anthology” films, and we’re still deciding how we like that title.) Solo will be a scamp, on his way to becoming the smuggler and rogue we know and love so well.
In the director’s seat will be Phil Lord and Chris Miller of LEGO Movie and 21 Jump Street fame. So we’re guessing that they’re going for a fun vibe with this film. Lawrence Kasdan is writing the film with his son Jon Kasdan.
From Kathleen Kennedy:
“It’s not just any filmmaker who can tell the story of such a beloved icon like Han Solo, and I’m excited to say we’ve found the perfect team to handle the task. Larry and Jon know all there is to know about the character, and Chris and Phil will bring their wit, style, energy and heart to tell Han’s story.”
It is slated for release on May 25, 2018, following Star Wars Episode VIII. No word on who will take up the mantle of young Han, but that’s sure to be a career-changer for someone…
