The great thing about 20th Century Fox’s upcoming Deadpool movie is that every bit of news and every update almost sounds like it’s come from the mouthy mercenary himself: The leaked test footage that reignited the interest in a standalone film; the snarky tweet that all-but-confirmed it; and now, the hilarious first image of Ryan Reynolds in costume as Deadpool.
As Laughing Squid points out, it’s an homage to Burt Reynolds’ considerably more naked 1970s Cosmopolitan centerfold, but the pose and the bearskin rug are exactly right. And in case you doubted whether Reynolds has gotten into character:

Rumor has it that Deadpool will have a PG-13 rating, which might throw some people off. That said, cheeky photos like this are a great way to embody the spirit of the movie without getting too filthy.
Deadpool comes to theaters February 12, 2016.
