Krysten Ritter has beaten the competition to land the role of superhero-turned-detective Jessica Jones in Marvel and Netflix’s new drama! Not surprising, as she seemed to be one of the most fitting candidates; the other actresses being considered included Warm Bodies’ Teresa Palmer and Arrow’s Jessica De Gouw.

According to Deadline, it came down to Palmer and Ritter, with both doing chemistry reads with The Following star Mike Colter. It would stand to reason that he’s the frontrunner to play Jessica’s on-again, off-again love interest Luke Cage, who will also lead his own Netflix series. Iron Fist and Daredevil are the other two Marvel series on Netflix’s roster, with all four leading into a miniseries event called The Defenders.

Ritter has a fierceness and flintiness to her that fits Jessica, who struggles with PTSD following a traumatic experience in-costume. That said, her wry comedic timing should contrast well with the gritty take Netflix is planning with these series. It will be exciting to see the actress—who has had memorable supporting roles on series like Breaking Bad and unusual leading roles on shows like The B—— in Apartment 23, plus a few failed series—enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
