Sarah Connor is Not Messing Around in the First Terminator: Genisys Trailer

So we know that Terminator: Genisys’ title is still ridiculous, and we were wary of a movie that seeks to supplant Linda Hamilton’s Sarah Connor (even with the Mother of Dragons), but the first trailer is out and it looks sort of… fun?

As reported, Genisys is something of a reset: When Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) selflessly sacrifices himself to go back in time and save John Connor’s (Jason Clarke) mom, he thinks that he’s going to find a scared young waitress cowering from a menacing Terminator. Instead, a naked and vulnerable Reese is transported to the past and almost killed—before a giant truck comes crashing through the building, and driving it is Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) all “Come with me if you want to live.”

YES badass Sarah Connor. Apparently she and “Pops” (Arnold Schwarzenegger) already took care of her would-be assassin, and Kyle Reese has landed himself in an alternate universe. Albeit an AU where they still have to stop Judgment Day from happening, because that is a tricky point in time to get unstuck.

Watch the trailer below for another callback to a famous line, and Schwarzenegger fighting his younger self. Also, what is with Sarah Connor’s penchant for big vehicles? First her delivery truck, then a schoolbus. Surprise: The new Terminator is set in the Speed universe.

Terminator: Genisys will be back (we’re sorry—Arnold did it, so then we had to) July 1, 2015.
