Marvel Studios Gives Us a First Look at Avengers: Age of Ultron

In place of last night’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., ABC aired Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe, a hour-long informercial laying out for the casual viewer the next steps for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Along with the Ant-Man test footage leaked last year, the special gave us a quick look at Guardians of the Galaxy and some exciting concept art for 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, including our first look at Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and…well, you’ll see!

Spoilers ahead, of course.

First, the Guardians portion from the show.

Ooh, hey, did you see that? The Collector’s got his hands on the orb! (Here’s why that’s important.) Two down, four to go?

Here’s our first look at Glenn Close as Nova Prime in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Avengers: Age of Ultron concept art of, assumably, Tony Stark up to something new.

“Hey you guys I got this great idea called Ultron and it’s gonna make everything so safe don’t you think good because I made like 600 already.”

I wonder if Hulk (but not Banner) feels protective of Widow after trying to kill her in Avengers? That’d be an interesting dynamic. And a not exactly welcome sidekick for Natasha…

I don’t know about you but I certainly don’t doubt her commitment to Sparkle Motion.

They don’t appear to be down-playing her already kind of undefinable magic “powers.” Rumor has it the post-credits scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier will go a ways towards addressing the origins of her and her brother’s abilities.

That’s quite a few Ultrons he’s plowing through.

Avengers: Age of Ultron concept art of…Hulkbuster armor!

Looks like we’ll be seeing the Hulkbuster armor originally rumored for Iron Man 3 in Avengers: Age of Ultron instead. Is Tony inside of it or is he controlling it remotely? Or has Ultron fashioned it as a way of matching the Hulk’s unstoppable abilities?

You know…the planet Sakaar is going to exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as soon as Guardians of the Galaxy hits screens. I’m getting worried about Bruce. I mean…more worried than usual.

This wasn’t part of the special, but it seems a good place to put it. ABC has released pics from the next Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode of J. August Richards in the…next phase?…of his Deathlok costume.

I just wanna press all of those magic-markered parallelograms to see if they do anything.

The Mike Peterson World Tour of Infinite Sadness continues next week when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns with “The End of the Beginning,” which is my favorite Winston Churchill speech. Or Black Sabbath song. One of those.

Chris Lough is the resident Tor.com Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. recapper. The concept art for him originally included less emotional baggage. Shed a tear for him on Twitter.
