So, you remember a few days ago, when we told you that two Neil Gaiman novels were being turned into TV shows? Well, now Preacher is finally getting an adaptation, too!  So, between these three and Sleepy Hollow providing a variety of creative theologies, you’ll never have to go to church again.

The show will be produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who gave a typically subdued statement about the project: “This is amazing! We’ve tried for seven years to work on Preacher and we’re so psyched AMC is finally letting us. It is our favorite comic of all time, and we’re going to do everything we can to do it right. Humperdoo!” Breaking Bad alum Sam Catlin will serve as showrunner (so possibly Cassidy will have a fondness for meth now?) which can only be a good thing. Garth Ennis also gave a long statement expressing enthusiasm fo the project, which concluded: “I’m particularly impressed that Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin understand Preacher fully — meaning they get it for what it is, not some vague approximation. All in all, it looks like Preacher can now be brought to TV in a way that I’d previously not have thought possible, and I very much appreciate that Steve and I have been included in the conversation in the way that we have.” So this is a very good sign. The television landscape has changed enough that Preacher’s hyperviolence and commitment to Tulip-nudity will fit right in, and we’re very excited to see this casting process – who are you seeing for Jesse? How the heck are they going to do the ArseFace? Is his suicide attempt still going to be over the loss of Kurt Cobain, or will they update the show? Could the entire soundtrack be done by Vince Gilligan’s old schoolmate Jim White, please? Are they going to keep the Neil Gaiman cameo? Will they get Neil to play himself??? And actually, how about Bill Hicks? Aughhh! So many questions!
