Say Hello Again to Richard Matheson in Guillermo del Toro’s Simpsons Halloween Opening

Guillermo del Toro guest-directed the opening credits to this year’s Halloween episode of The Simpsons (its 24th!) and the amount of references to horror writers, movies, classics…well, horror everything, is amazing.

We were especially tickled to find the recently passed Tor Books author Richard Matheson amongst the streetside pantheon of famous writers, watching Ray Bradbury doodle on his Illustrated Man while one of Matheson’s own mutants from “The Omega Man” stands guard!

Watch the entire opening below and see if you can spot all of the references.

There’s more from del Toro here on how he constructed the opening, if you’re curious!
