MTV is reporting on a rumor that Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston is being courted to play Lex Luthor in the Superman/Batman Man of Steel sequel. The news was pieced together from a series of very obvious hints tweeted by Latino Review writer El Mayimbe.

If true, the Superman movies just got way more intense and we’re hard pressed to think of a better actor to cast in the role. (Aside from Cranston’s Breaking Bad co-star Giancarlo Esposito, that is.) Although this does produce another problem in that Cranston would probably prove so captivating in the role that you’d actually be disappointed when Superman and Batman triumphed.

Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. could plunder the entire cast for the next movie, really. Imagine if Aaron Paul came along as Lex’s sidekick? (“Yeah Mister Luthor! Yeah, science!”) Hank is the quintessential One Guy Who Never Figures Out Clark Kent Is Superman. And were you injured in the alien attack that leveled Metropolis? You deserve money! Better call Saul.

You could even justify Lex’s attacks on Superman by saying he wants to study Clark’s biology so he can find a “cure” for Walt Jr. Marie would be perfect as a rival reporter to Lois. And Skyler could disapprove of it all! Man, this thing writes itself….
