John Barrowman said in an interview that he often is asked to hold people’s hands on airplanes because they’re afraid to fly—and apparently are unaware that he’s terrified, too. It’s easy to forget sometimes that the actors who play characters we adore aren’t their beloved alter egos, and we can only imagine the requests made when you’re primarily known for being a super-suave ex-time agent from the 51st century who can never die.
Of course, there are ways in which John Barrowman might actually be Captain Jack Harkness. Like his habit of getting friendly with loads of fabulous beings from all across the globe. We have all the evidence you’ll ever need right here:
Captain Jack has kissed plenty of people on Torchwood, but he also has a habit of kissing his co-stars outside of the film sets. Here he is kissing Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper) and Gareth David-Lloyd (Ianto Jones):
Plenty of Who fans were displeased with the fact that while Captain Jack was able to plant one on the Ninth Doctor, the Tenth never got so lucky. But he did at Comic Con 2011! In front of so many people. Here’s evidence of the kiss and Barrowman’s highly appropriate GIF-ed reaction:
Co-stars aren’t the only people on his list, either; this year at Comic Con 2013, he kissed Jonathan Ross as they hosted the Eisner Awards together:
He also likes to manhandle/cuddle lots of gorgeous fellows! You did see how he met Nathan Fillion above (we just want to know where Mal’s other hand is…), but did you also know that Captain Reynolds and Captain Jack competed for the Wheatons? Fillion was after the Mrs., but we think that Wil looks more excited with his prize:
And Barrowman has also danced the tango with Misha Collins, our very favorite angel from Supernatural:
Of course, we can’t forget that immortal moment where Captain Archer signed his bum while Captain Kirk looked on approvingly:
He kisses his hosts, too! Casually observe him planting a smooch on Chris Hardwick:
Aside from all this, he has an odd propensity towards licking people. Here we have him licking James Marsters on the Torchwood set (we sort of wish there was an alternate version where Marsters had been dressed like Spike and in character for the candid):
And if that’s not enough action for you, here’s a fan dressed as a Silurian (Madame Vastra?) who he simply couldn’t resist:
Speaking of fans, there’s this adorable video, where convention goers cheered John Barrowman into singing Happy Birthday to a fan cosplaying as Captain Jack. Which he did before kissing him. We’re incredibly jealous:
But nothing can state our case better than this picture of him kissing a puppy:
So there you have it! John Barrowman loves all the people you love, and will continue kiss, lick, and dance them all over. We only wish we had the courage to do the same—and so does David Tennant:
Stubby the Rocket may have kissed John Barrowman an age ago, and may be the reason why John Barrowman is—or is not—still afraid of flying.
