Sad news this morning: it’s being reported that director and producer Tony Scott has passed away in an apparent suicide. Scott, 68, one of the first directors to successfully make the transition from commercials to feature films, established himself in Hollywood with movies such as The Hunger (a box office flop which has since become a cult classic), Top Gun, and True Romance. Since the late Nineties, Scott had served as an executive producer on many films, miniseries, and television shows, including The Good Wife, Numb3rs, and most recently Prometheus, directed by his brother and frequent collaborator, Ridley Scott. Scott is survived by his wife and two sons, and leaves behind a impressive body of work—including everything from blockbusters, action, and genre films—that will continue to entertain and enthrall generations of fans. He will be missed.
