A Lost Van Gogh or the Earth as Seen From Space?

This picture is from one of the Landsat satellites, which have been taking pictures of the earth since the 1970s. In recent years the U.S. Geological Suvery has been digitally coloring the pictures in order to better differentiate elements that are visibly similar to the naked eye. What results are striking photos like the one pictured above.
