J.K. Rowling new book for adult audiences is coming out way sooner than we expected. According to a recent press release, The Casual Vacancy will be released on September 27. (That’s worldwide, of course.)

According to her publisher (Little, Brown), the book will be set in a seemingly idyllic English town called Pagford. It opens with the sudden death of a popular man whose unexpected demise shocks the town, which is described as far more menacing than its pretty facade would indicate.

The publisher said that in reality Pagford is “a town at war” with rich people fighting the poor, parents battling their teenagers, and wives in conflict with their husbands. The book will be “blackly comic.”

Will you be picking up a copy this fall? And do you think the book will have genre elements in it, or will this be straight up literary fiction for Ms. Rowling?
