Taylor Swift has just released the title theme to the forthcoming Hunger Games movie. The song is titled “Safe & Sound,” and no one is more surprised than Stubby to find that it, um, doesn’t suck.

Well, okay, the lyrics make no sense in regards to the actual plot. (The song entreats a loved one to close their eyes, for in the morning they’ll be safe and sound. At no point in the book is this ever a true sentiment. Really, it’s decidedly the opposite.) But the song itself is a dark, slow country ditty produced by T-Bone Burnett. It lurks sweetly and resists bombast and autotuning in favor of a quiet menace. Where the lyrics falter, the music itself does a fantastic job at invoking the spare, cruel world of The Hunger Games.

We imagine this song will play while Peeta and Katniss are cave-snuggling. You can listen to the song in the above video, which also includes an iTunes download link.

Stubby the Rocket is the mascot of Tor.com and has to go blast some Neko Case to balance out the favorable opinion it just had of Taylor Swift.
