Muppet Week

It’s the Muppet Week on Tor.com!

Tune up the banjo and get your Kermit arms ready, Tor.com is giving in to its Muppet obsession this week!

The staff and our contributors will be appreciating the various Muppet films over the course of this week and next, leading up to the release of the new Muppets movie. But don’t go thinking this is only an excuse to put up funny Muppet videos (which it is). We’ll also be delving into Jim Henson’s fascination with the fantasy and science fiction genre.

Alongside the movies and videos and chickens and things, you’ll find explorations into Jim Henson’s various forays into genre. From Dark Crystal to Time Piece to Labyrinth and onward. What is Katee “Starbuck” Sackhoff’s connection to Henson’s works? How instrumental were the Muppets in the formation of Star Wars? And where can you find Henson’s influence in current fantasy?

Muppet Week will also feature an in-depth look at puppeteering itself from SFF author Mary Robinette Kowal, a list of SFF figures that have appeared in The Muppet Show, and more. When Muppet Week is over, you’ll have a hard time not seeing science fiction and fantasy in a variety of Jim Henson’s works.

Bookmark the Muppet Week index to keep up on all the fun stuff. We start with an appreciation of the very first film: The Muppet Movie!
