Robert Jordan, the creator of the massively detailed Wheel of Time world, was born on October 17, 1948. Today would have been his 63rd birthday.

As readers familiar with Tor.com may know, the series has produced an enormous amount of discussion both here and elsewhere online. Most recently, Tor.com Wheel of Time Reread writer Leigh Butler penned an appreciation of the very first novel, The Eye of the World, harkening back to her introduction to the series and the emotion that discovering Jordan’s world produces amongst fans new and old. The comments immediately became a collection of resonant experiences and old stories about Jordan. (Or Jim, as many knew him.)

If you have a moment today, we can think of no better way to celebrate his birthday than to read through these heartfelt tributes to him. (Linked above.) And, perhaps, add your own.

Happy birthday, James Oliver Rigney, Jr. Thank you for the gift.
