It has been recently announced that Ray Bradbury‘s semi-autobiographical Dandelion Wine will be made into a movie. While Bradbury is to be closely involved with the adaptation, the screenplay will be written by Rodion Nahapetov, the writer, director, and star of Contamination (2008). The film will be produced by Phoenix Pictures’ Mike Medavoy and Doug McKay.

Here’s a chance to get familiar with the story.

Dandelion Wine tells the story of twelve-year-old Douglas Spaulding’s summer during 1928. You join Douglas as he explores and learns the highs and lows of life as a young boy in smalltown America, from the thrill of the carefree speed provided from a new pair of tennis shoes to the pain of losing a best friend.

I have only read one of Ray Bradbury’s booksFahrenheit 451—but I have listened to many of his titles on audio. I don’t know if it is the story, or the narrator Stephen Hoye, or perhaps a little bit of both. But Dandelion Wine transports me to a world of memories and dreams. My heart races along with Lavinia Nebbs as she enters the ravine scaring herself with thoughts of the Lonely One. And I feel myself tearing up each time Douglas is faced with a new loss in his young life.

I highly recommend this listen to anyone who is a fan of Bradbury and challenge anyone who is not to give this story a chance to win them over. The audio version is available in several formats through Tantor Audio
