Best Science Fiction & Fantasy Novels of the Decade Reader's Poll
Best Science Fiction & Fantasy Novels of the Decade Reader's Poll

We’ve tallied your votes from nearly 400 comments so far in the Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Novels of the Decade Poll and from that we’ve got some new frontrunners! Check the list out below the cut.

In addition, some clarifications as we go:

  • Votes for series are being tallied, but right now are not included in the individual novel tallies. We’re taking a wait-and-see approach with this and encourage folks to vote for individual titles.
  • Votes are being tallied day-by-day in the Tor.com office, so there will be some human error and some delay. (We considered polling software, but didn’t want to limit your responses.)

We present the Top 20 voted novels as of 3:30 PM EST on Monday, January 10th. The Wheel of Time series has appeared over the weekend and it appears that the British have been roused as Gaiman and Clarke find Pratchett and Rowling hurrying upwards.

  1. The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss – 82 votes
  2. American Gods by Neil Gaiman – 74 votes
  3. Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke – 69 votes
  4. The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson – 64 votes
  5. A Storm of Swords by George R. R. Martin – 58 votes
  6. Anathem by Neal Stephenson / Spin by Robert Charles Wilson – 42 votes [TIE]
  7. Perdido Street Station by China Miéville – 40 votes
  8. Old Man’s War by John Scalzi – 40 votes
  9. Towers of Midnight by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson – 34 votes

Following them…

  1. Knife of Dreams by Robert Jordan / Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling – 33 votes [TIE]
  2. The Gathering Storm by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson – 30 votes
  3. The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch – 29 votes
  4. Night Watch by Terry Pratchett – 27 votes
  5. Blindsight by Peter Watts – 26 votes
  6. Deadhouse Gates by Steven Erikson – 23 votes
  7. The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger / The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold / The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi – 21 votes [TIE]

A great deal of titles are nipping only one or two votes away from the heels of the Top 20, so keep voting!
