Joss Whedon was joined by the writers and cast of his new internet show, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, for a fun and casual Q&A session. In attendance were Simon Helberg, (Moist), Felicia Day (Penny), Neil Patrick Harris (Dr. Horrible), Nathan Fillion (Captain Hammer), Joss Whedon, Zack Whedon (writer), Jed Whedon (music), and Maurissa Tancharoen (writer, also plays one of the groupies).

While the program said that there’d be discussion of various and sundry Whedonverse projects, it was clear from the start that the focus these days is squarely on Dr. Horrible, for many of the reasons I posted about here. That, and, well, it’s good. Upwards of 2000 people lined up later in the evening for a screening of the show, and demand was such that the powers-that-be had to open up various additional viewings.

[More below the fold…]

Any time you have Joss Whedon as the MC, you’re bound to have a good time. Even so, the chemistry between the panelists was vibrant–it’s clear as day that these people enjoy each other very much, and love to work together. Nathan Fillion was at his charming, engaging best. In the words of Joss Whedon:

“Nathan is one of the kindest people I’ve had the privilege to know. He is also the smarmiest motherfucker. Shatner, your time is done.”

Neil Patrick Harris was channeling Dr. Horrible all through the session, going so far as to pull the chair out from under Nathan Fillion, in one final poke in the eye at Captain Hammer.

Felicia Day started off the panel very shy and quiet, until she admitted she was Twittering under the table. This, of course, led to a whole round of ‘twittering under the table’ jokes, much to the audience’s delight. Felicia then kept her arms and hands visibly on the table for the duration….

Towards the end, the crew let us all know about some plans for the upcoming DVD release of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Alog Blog. Although no release date was set, they reiterated the fact that they are indeed composing music for what they’re calling a ‘musical commentary’. They are also going to hold a contest, in which they’ll take fan ‘applications’ for the Evil League of Evil. The ten best entries will be included in the DVD. Additionally, they announced that the soundtrack for Dr. Horrible will be made available in a few weeks, and that yes: we will be seeing more of Dr. Horrible.

[Audio to come, when we sort out our technical fu…probably in a post that also presents the long-promised full-length Steven Moffat video.]
